When Minneapolis painters needs to say no

Holy cow! Is is really September and people still are looking to get the outside of their house done? Ok. Well I have some timelines about that. That timeline is October 15ish.

The photo I have here is a wall I painted in South West neighborhood of Minneapolis. It was one of those jobs that had to get done no matter the date. I argued about the timing, saying we should do it next year, but I was overridden.

Why not? Most paints are a 35 degree paint now and it wasn’t getting down to 35 degrees…air temp. What I do think happened was that the metal frames of the wall may have stayed cooler than 35 AND retained moisture. Paint needs to cure. If it doesn’t we get failure. Anyone want to guess what happened to my awesome black wall the nest spring? Peeling and an unhappy client.

As a lifelong Minneapolis painter, who is now a St. Paul painter as well, I was happy to redo the peeling for a cost. I always check my work from the previous year to make sure there were no issues by me. However here I had warned against painting this late and had to charge because it had been brought up as an issue before I painted.

Lesson learned. Don’t ask me to paint ourdoors after the 15th of October unless you like seeing a lot of me in the spring as well.
