Home Restoration 101: Using rollers or brushes for painting
When doing home restoration you will find yourself in the part where you need to paint or repaint (if that’s the job itself) a house or a part thereof. So, it’s not just about opening the can of paint and start to applying it all around. No, remember, you need to be efficient and use time wisely.
This means knowing how to use the right elements for the job, as we mentioned in a previous post, selecting the right kind of paint is one part of the job, then comes the part of selecting the correct tools for applying it (of course, after you thin it a bit).
Using brush or roll depends a lot on the kind of surface you are going to paint (you can also use a spray gun but that’s another story), choosing correctly will save you time and paint, which is important.
For instance, if a wall is rugged (like most concrete walls) you need to use brushes, not just because the surface itself does not allow for the use of roll but also because if you try to, you will not only ruin the roll but also going to throw away a lot of paint. Spray guns are recommended in this case but only if you are outdoors.
If the surface is completely plain then a roller is the tool of choice as it will cover more surface faster and with minimal waste of paint.
Also you need to make sure that the paint is not too thin as this will result in a heavy waste of material which we don’t want in any home restoration job as it will raise costs unnecessarily.
