Home Restoration: What to keep and what not to keep

When you decide to perform a home restoration one of the questions that will always come up is what to keep and what not to keep. It is a very important question as it will allow you to know how much money you can save in the whole process.

Today we want to talk about the benefits of leaving wooden windows when you restore a full house or a part of it. The first thing you need to ask (and obviously check) is the condition of the current window, once that is achieved then you can move on to the next step, decide how to fix it.

Notice that we said “how to fix it” and not “replace it”, why? Because there’s a reason for it. Most wood windows are made “to fit” which means, the area of the wall where they are located was measured and the windows (from frame to glass) was made exactly to fit there, whereas new, modern windows are made in a variety of measures but it will be a real miracle if one of those is the one you need. So, what would be the result of this? That if you find a window that fits, it won’t fit correctly leaving room for air and other stuff to come in, causing unnecessary problems.

Also, comes the material in which new windows are made: vinyl. This material is not prone to be painted, can warp and even bend in a short period of time forcing you to restore your windows once more in a very short period of time.

So all in all if you are in a home restoration process and there are wooden windows involved, our recommendation is to fix them and not, replace them.
