Paint Contractor: Using correctly a spray gun

When you are a paint contractor you need to know how to paint in a variety of surfaces and with a variety of tools, like spray guns, and today we are going to talk about how to correctly use this tool so if you want to use one you will not have any trouble and get the best results.

The most important thing is to have the paint ready and that means have it thinned as instructed. Make sure there are no clogs in it, one of the most common problems when using a spray gun are the clogs that block the flow of paint.

Second of all make sure the temperature is right for spray painting (between 45 and 75 degrees) if too hot, the paint will dry too fast and will not provide the right results, if too cold will take more time to dry giving room for bugs and dust to stick to it ruining the job.

Once everything is ready get a piece of board or cardboard and do a test run, this is necessary so you can make sure that there are no clogs and the flow of paint is correct. Now you are ready to paint.

You have to move the spray gun from side to side like a brush, this way you will cover all the surface evenly and in less time without needing to use too much paint. You need to keep the nozzle about 12 inches from the surface you are painting, this is necessary so you don´t apply too much paint, for instance, if you are too close to the surface you will be applying four times more paint than you need.

When you reach a corner paint it with an up and down movement to cover it up evenly. Also, it is highly recommendable to apply a light coat of paint and then, when dry, apply a second one, this way you won´t apply too much paint that might end up peeling.

Being a paint contractor means knowing how to use the tools and also to help you guys know how to use them.
