Theory of color and how it applies to home restoration

Without a shadow of a doubt when you perform a home restoration job you will find yourself at a point where you (or the person you are doing it for) will come across the question of what colors will be used for the finishing touches of the work. Well, there are a few things you need to know about color.

First and foremost colors work in a very interesting way on the mind, they can generate feelings, therefore you need to be careful when selecting colors for a room because whatever color you choose will, undoubtedly, result in a specific sensation to the person or persons who enter that room.

For example, yellow gives a sensation of warmth and coziness which will give the person in the room the feeling of being welcome, whereas colors like blue or light blue can give a sense of cold and even freshness, same feeling that colors like green can provide.

Colors like gray are what we could call neutral colors and are normally used in offices because they don’t generate sensations to the persons inhabiting the place or working on it.

That’s the first part, the second one is, combining them. you need to know how to combine different colors in order to give visitors and inhabitants the experience you are looking for, for example, if you want to give a room amplitude (because colors can also affect how people’s perceptions work on space) you have to use light colors, like white, yellow, or lime green.

Remember, colors also reflect light, that’s the secret behind the previous statement, likewise, if you use dark colors like navy blue or so, you will give a sensation of smallness to a room. And remember, when you work on a home restoration, always think of what effect you want to give with the colors and how it will affect the feelings of those who will live there.
